Gorindo turning kokutsu-dachiKihon - How to Turn

< previous

Turn in Kokutsu-dachi

1) Begin in kokutsu-dachi (back stance) with right foot forward.

2) Lead with the eyes and head by looking first over the left shoulder.

3) Unweight the right foot slightly by pushing off the rear (left) foot and pivoting on the metatarsal of the right foot. The heel of the right foot moves to the outside until it touches down again with the foot at a 90° angle to the former position and the “new” direction.

The rear (left) foot, after pushing off with the metatarsal, is brought up close to the pivoting (right) foot and then is “stepped out” behind again in the “new” direction of the turn. It takes up its correct kokutsu-dachi position with left foot “forward”.
